Joel MacGillivray, CPACorporate Reporting · who you'll work with
A balance sheet and income statement you can compare year to year, hand to your bank, and plan from.
Your corporate tax return prepared and filed on your behalf.
What looked unusual, where your tax position stands, and which deadlines are coming, in plain language.
We walk through the numbers with you: what they say about the business, and what we'd plan for next year.
We learn about your business, confirm what kind of year-end you need, and give you a fixed-fee quote.
We give you a short checklist. The 30 days start the day we have everything on it.
Statements, tax return and memo, finished. Then we book your sit-down. If we take longer, you get 10% off.
It mostly comes down to who reads your statements: just you and the CRA, or a bank or outside shareholder too. We'll confirm which you need on the call.
Not sure which you need?Six quick questions below, and you'll see which year-end tends to fit, and why.

For you and the CRA
For banks and shareholders
Takes about two minutes. Six questions. Your answer appears below with the reasoning. Nothing to submit.
This is the question that drives most of the answer. Select all that apply.
Some loan agreements, investor term sheets, franchisor contracts, or funding agreements specify a required tier. If yours does, that's the floor.
Roughly, how closely does your industry attract outside scrutiny of the numbers. When unsure, pick medium.
These three questions fine-tune the answer — your stakeholder situation from question 1 does most of the real work.
Your corporation's gross revenue for your most recent fiscal year.
Individual transactions — sales, purchases, transfers — through your books in a typical month. Estimate if unsure.
Profit (or loss) from your most recent fiscal year, before income taxes.
GIFI = General Index of Financial Information (CRA's codes for financial data on the T2 tax return).
The main driver:
Approximate range for Canadian SMBs at this tier. Your actual fee depends on the condition of your books, complexity, deadlines, and scope. FHB will quote you specifically once they've seen your situation — the range above is a planning reference only.
A formal Review or Audit isn't something F.H. Black takes on as a new engagement today. That doesn't mean we can't help. The most useful next step is a short consultation — we'll confirm whether you actually need this level of assurance, point you toward the right fit if you do, and look at whether there's a better way to support the business underneath the requirement, often on a consulting, controllership, or HR/EAD basis.
This is educational, not professional advice. It's a plain-English read of how a business's answers tend to map to engagement types in Canada. It's not a professional opinion, not an engagement acceptance, and not a substitute for a specific conversation with a CPA. Ranges and framings reflect common practice; your situation may vary.

The entire FHB team has been a key partner of GCR Agencies for decades. We know we can always count on thorough, timely and professional service.
The service we get from their team is exemplary. They are always available, approachable and knowledgeable.
Their client-service approach is always professional, and they treat our business with the same level of care as their own.
Twenty minutes, no sales pitch. We ask about your business, who reads your statements, and where your books stand. You leave knowing which year-end you need and what it will cost. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.
Sue Black, our business development partner, makes the first call. From there you work with Joel MacGillivray and the Corporate Reporting team, who do the year-end itself.
After your call we send a short checklist. The 30 days start the day we have two things: your complete and accurate accounting records, and your signed engagement letter, payment authorization and compilation questionnaire. We may have a few follow-up questions along the way. A reply within two or three business days keeps us on schedule.
Less than most owners expect. You sign one authorization and we coordinate with your previous accountant and the CRA to get what we need.
It depends mostly on who reads your statements: just you and the CRA, or a bank or outside shareholder as well. We'll confirm on the call, or answer the six questions in the Engagement Fit Guide above.
It depends on the size of your business and the condition of your books. You'll get a fixed-fee quote on the call, before any work starts.
It applies to compilation engagements and GIFI filings, including your T2 corporate return. Review engagements follow a different process and timeline, and we don't perform audits. If your bank or an outside shareholder requires a review, we'll tell you on the call.
